Because I really liked the first episode of Dollhouse I decided to continue to watch the series. This episode, “The Target”, gives us a lot more information on the past of Echo and how she is different than all her other “doll” counterparts. We also learn more about the trust between Echo and her handler Langdon. In this episode the client decides to hunt Echo as some sick game of chasing another human being, to the death. This episode is very similar to a short story I have read which is called The Most Dangerous Game, and just like in the short story the hunted becomes the hunter. In my opinion this sick need of releasing all human connection to another in order to get an adrenaline high is not only disgusting, it is psychotic. In Dollhouse we start to learn about how Ballard alienates himself from the rest of society in his pursuit of the persecution of the Dollhouse. To me this act of distancing himself from other is very sad and quite destructive. What if after his pursuit he no longer can function in society? I used to have a friend that in high school alienated himself from all contact besides this online videogame. He started to live through the game. His only human contact other than his parents were when he went to school, and even at school he was quiet and shy. He turned from an outgoing quite popular guy to the social outcast that couldn’t keep a conversation for his life. I wonder if Ballard will also be an example of this.

Blog 2: Dollhouse Episode 1
After much of my night to find the first episode of Dollhouse online I finally gave up and bought the stupid season. I watched the first episode of season 1 titled “Ghost”, in which the only investigator of the Dollhouse corporation states:
Paul Ballard: ”If you have everything, you want something else. Something more extreme. Something more specific. Something perfect.”
To me this statement is true for all persons in the world; we all want what we can’t get. It is strictly human nature to yearn for an object or life that is unobtainable by normal means. This quote is in regards to all the billionaires in the show; that even when you have everything and can get anything; there is still something inside of you that wants even more. That “thing” is the persons intuition at striving for perfection, because although people can say “I am not perfect” (like in corny movies or bad television), they never truly want to believe it. There is always that lust to become even better, the ambition to keep on improving on yourself until you reach the never-ending goal. However there is never this perfection, there is always a past; a past that can not be cleared away.
Echo: “You ever try to clean an actual slate? You always see what was on it before.”
Just like in the show, one can never fully clear the past, one can never get over traumatic events. Although there may be periods that you “forget” about it; it is never fully wiped. Instead it resurges ever so often to bring you back into the fact that; one can never reach perfection.

Blog 1 About Davis Mann
Hi, I am Davis Mann and I am a first year biology student here at The Ohio State University. I am from Mason, Ohio which is about twenty minutes outside of Cincinnati. I have a twin sister that attends Miami University at Oxford and an older brother that is a senior at Miami University at Oxford as well. I enjoy playing soccer, lacrosse, table tennis, and snowboarding. I have been playing soccer since I was five and I have been snowboarding since seven years old. I have snowboarded at Steamboat, Durango, Purgatory, Wolf Creek, Vail, Breckenridge, Heavenly, Jackson Hole, Brian Head, Snow Shoe, and Lake Tahoe. I was born in Lexington Kentucky, and then moved to Sterling Heights Michigan. After living in Sterling Heights for a year I moved to a Caribbean Island called Saba for two years so my dad could attend Medical School. After he finished his schooling we moved to Cockeysville Maryland and then back to Sterling Heights. Finally I moved to where I currently live in Mason Ohio. My favorite basketball player is Lebron James, I love the fact that he left Cleveland and took his talents to South Beach. I hate Cleveland with a passion. My favorite soccer team is Manchester United; they are amazing at the game and are always entertaining to watch. My favorite professional player of all time is Dimitar Berbatov, he is a striker for Manchester United and is currently leading the English Premier League in goals. He is amazing with the ball and is a genius in his passing. Also a fun fact about myself is I am half Asian, that is all.
